K-12 schools turn to StrandVision digital signs to keep students informed

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - May 23, 2006 - StrandVision LLC (http://www.strandvision.com), a provider of hosted digital signage services, has introduced low-cost, easy-to-administer digital signs for K-12 schools that use existing televisions to distribute daily announcements and other information. Designed to supplement traditional communications, such as daily announcements and postings, the digital signs are timely and efficient.

Installations can include displays in hallways, at entrances and in cafeterias, the library and other areas where students and/or faculty congregate. The digital signs can provide constant updates and reminders of daily announcements using text, photos and video.

Typical Applications:

  • School announcements
  • Upcoming sporting events and meetings
  • Sports and club competition scores
  • Special events
  • Guest speakers/presentations
  • Cafeteria menus
  • Student and faculty recognition
  • Parent/teacher conference information
  • Internships
  • Community information
  • Local weather and weather advisories
  • Breaking news

"Students are oriented towards televisions and other high tech electronic media," explained Mike Strand, StrandVision founder and CEO. "That makes digital signs a natural for bringing them up-to-date information in an attention-getting way. Couple the television medium with the ability to make quick updates without a lot of technical knowledge and it becomes a current information source that students can rely on."

Easy to set up - Simple to administer

StrandVision Digital Signage takes an innovative approach by delivering information over the Internet. The network is easy to set up and maintain. It requires a personal computer with Internet access to act as a server that distributes information to televisions over the school’s existing cable or local area network. Typically, a school’s computer or technical instructors and/or support staff handle the installation in less than an hour.

The day-to-day administration does not require any technical expertise. Administrative staff is able to log onto the password-protected StrandVision server over the Internet to type in the latest announcements or upload photos and graphics. The entire digital signage system is updated at the next refresh (within minutes). Commented Strand, "With our fill-in-the-form entry system, if you know how to browse the Web, you can do the daily updates on a StrandVision Digital Signage network."

Students are presented with a constantly scrolling text and graphics message loop throughout the school. It enables them to check locations and times of their activities throughout the day, cutting down on confusion. Schedule and room changes can also be broadcast throughout the day. The StrandVision Digital Signage system can also be configured to send different messages to different locations and at different times of the day. For instance, a separate feed can be sent to teacher and administrator break rooms with messages targeted to administrative matters.

StrandVision Digital Signage for school communications is available immediately from StrandVision and through a national network of resellers and installers. Pricing begins at $54.95/month (annual subscription rate). Installations require a high-speed Internet connection and a personal computer with Web access to develop and/or receive content. A free trial is available at: http://www.strandvision.com/adduser.html.
