For those of you who haven’t had time to read the article in the New York Times or hundreds of other stories

According to Hold Securities, a Russian hacker group has collected 1.2 billion (with a “B”) Internet passwords reported the New York Times ( and about a gazillion other print and online sites. Actually, the hackers collected 4.5 billion records and then scrubbed the list to eliminate multiple emails and overlapping records to arrive at 1.2 billion unique records.

The damage is unclear but it’s worth emphasizing that you should have unique passwords for all of your logons – especially for financial, medical and other highly sensitive sites.…not much digital signage content in this posting.
