Panasonic LED Signs Beam Data to Phones

I’m not sure I understand this one but I ran across an article by IDG News Service called “Panasonic LED signs beam data to phones 5 meters away” that’s clearly related to digital signage. It outlines a new technology that beams coded information to smartphones’ cameras that can direct people to advertisements and information sites. The article compares the new technology to QR codes but notes that it can cover a much longer distance.
