It's important to keep everything clean. Wash your hands and clean all surfaces frequently to eliminate bacteria.

Don't cross-contaminate working surfaces with raw meats and vegetables. Use separate storage containers and wash utensils when moving between foods.

Storing food safely is a very important step of keeping a kitchen sanitary. Foods needing refrigeration should be refrigerated whenever not in use, and other foods should be put away.

Cooking foods thoroughly will prevent bacteria foodborne illnesses.

Make sure your food is thoroughly cooked

Cooking meats to the minimum recommended temperature is very important. It kills the bacteria that could be detrimental to your health.

Being able to tell proper temperature requires more than just sight, smell, or taste. A food thermometer is a handy tool to measure the internal temperature, which is what really matters.

Meats are mostly the cause for concern. Proper internal temperatures for hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken are 160°F, 160°F, and 165°F, respectively. turkey is 180°F.

Cooking can be dangerous if not properly carried out. Know the safety rules. Always be aware of the possibility of a fire. Keep flammable things away from the stove.

Never leave the kitchen while cooking, especially if there are children in the area. If you need to leave, turn it off first.

Always have a properly certified and charged fire extinguisher near the cooking area.

In case of a fire, either try to smother the fire, or just call 911 immediately.
