The Expectancy Theory

In 1964, Victor Vroom came up with the equation Motivation = Perceived Probability of Success x Connection of Success and Reward x Value of Obtaining Goal.

Because of the multiplication, a low value in any of these three fields will equal a much lower product. This shows how each field must be high for high motivation.

This theory explains motivation comes from what you expect to get for your effort. Utilizing this equation and applying it to your life can be beneficial by reminding you of what you are working toward.
