Technical Details to Get You Going

Although StrandVision Digital Signage is very easy to use, some of our customers have pushed us to enhance the system. This section has technical descriptions for a variety of more advanced configurations. What should I consider when installing a digital sign?

Whether you are going to set up your StrandVision Digital Signage network yourself or hire an installer, this guide will show you the way. For information on cable setup, click here. For details on setting up a Windows computer, click here.

Can I customize the digital signage display more?

Yes, many types of preferences can be set for your Digital Media Player. As part of your initial setup fee, we can create a custom background template for you. Click here for some samples of custom templates and creation instructions.

How can I play video on my signage?

For satellite or cable television, a standard Windows video capture card can be used. Click here for instructions.

Your edited and copyright-cleared video is either mailed or uploaded to the StrandVision ftp site using the login information provided to you with your video package purchase. It is converted to the signage format and installed on your account within 1 business day. The electronically supported video types are:

  • QuickTime (.mov)
  • Video for Windows (.avi)
  • MPEG Movie (.mpg, .mpeg)
  • Digital Video (.dv, .dvi)
  • Windows Media (.asf, .wmv)
  • Macromedia Flash Video (.flv)
  • 3GPP/3GPP2 for mobile devices (.3gp, .3gpp, .3gp2, .3gpp2)

The playback computer must be running the standalone player on a 2.6 Ghz computer with Windows operating system. Your electronically transmitted video clips should use an NTSC Microsoft or QuickTime compatible DV Compressor. Click here for additional instructions

Can I bypass the wireless login for my digital media player?

Probably. If your wireless system forwards visitors to a web page, there is a way to "white list" MAC addresses for pc's to bypass that step giving a long term network connetion without future user intervention. Here are instructions for Hilton hotels - others are similar.

Does StrandVision support outdoor billboards?

Yes. StrandVision Digital Signage supports many outdoor billboards. Our favorite is Formetco since they have an excellent warranty, low power and flexible sizing options. Here is a document that describes one installation.

What should I consider when setting up a Digital Video Wall?

Do you work with Unix/Linux Digital Media Players?

Yes, we work with Linux, Unix as well as Windows and Mac platforms. Instructions to set up a dedicated Linux Digital Signage Media Player computer can be found here.

Do you work with Mac Digital Media Players?

Can I play background music on my sign?

StrandVision Digital Signage allows background music to be played whenever streaming video is not being played. This is accomplished by connecting an audio source to the microphone jack of the playback computer. Instructions to configure this can be found here.

Can I include a PowerPoint presentation in my sign?

StrandVision Digital Signage includes a free PowerPoint to Jpeg conversion utility to all subscribers. Instructions to use this tool can be found here.

How does this system work with firewalls?

Since StrandVision Digital Signage uses normal web browsing technology, no special configurations are needed to firewalls. Here is an article that discusses different options to configure your network system.

Can I rebuild my Linux Digital Media Player?
